Update: Pilot named as search continues for missing Piper Malibu plane

The search continues for the missing Piper Malibu plane that disappeared in the English Channel, with Premier League footballer Emiliano Sala on board.

A British pilot was the only other person with Mr Sala on the aircraft. He has now been named as Dave Ibbotson, a 60-year-old father of three.

Harbour Master Captain David Barker said: “The search is ongoing and a decision whether to continue will be taken later today. A search of 280 square miles of our targeted search pattern, using multiple aircraft from the Channel Islands, France and UK, has been completed in the last five hours.”

Guernsey Police reveal there are currently three planes and one helicopter in the air. They are also reviewing satellite imagery and mobile phone data to see if they can be of any assistance in the search. However, nothing spotted today can be attributed to the missing plane.
