Small aircraft pilot crashes after running out of fuel

A pilot of a Champion 7GC aircraft recently crashed in Alaska, US, after running out of fuel, according to a safety board report.

The pilot did not preflight the aircraft or check fuel before flying, according to the FAA Aviation Safety Inspector.

The pilot was forced to land near Palmer, Alaska, following the running out of fuel an the aircraft hit a telephone pole once it had landed causing damage to both wings.

There was apparently no further error with the aircraft – mechanical or otherwise – simply that the plane ran out of fuel while airborne.
