Scottsdale Airport reducing U.S. Customs hours until Sept. 30

Scottsdale Airport will temporarily scale back its hours for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) service. The temporary service hours are now 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday until Sept. 30.

After-Hour Appointments

Appointments outside of office hours may be available 24 hours per day, seven days per week; requests outside of office hours are evaluated on a case by case basis and are based on officer availability. Users requesting service outside of normal hours must pay an additional $225 user fee. To book an appointment with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, please call 480-312-8483.

Why the change?

Service hours are being temporarily changed due to CBP’s recent announcement of transitioning from flat-rate fees to full-cost recovery billing starting July 1 to meet statutory requirements. This change significantly increases the cost to the airport to provide customs service. With its announcement, the CBP also offered an option to pause services for three months to help airport sponsors offset the increased costs.

The Aviation Department decided this option was in Scottsdale’s best interest given a decreased demand for customs service during the summer months, especially this year with COVID-19 impacts on international travel. This will help Scottsdale defray some of the financial impact.

Aviation staff is evaluating future financial impacts and adjustments to user fees and/or service levels.
