The Labour party, UK political party, have announced that it plans to closely examine a proposal to phase-out private jets leading to an all out ban following a recent report from a left-leaning think tank.
Andy McDonald, the shadow transport secretary, after a report revealed carbon emissions from the sector equivalent to 450,000 cars each year, tweeted on Monday: “The multi-millionaires & billionaires who travel by private jet are doing profound damage to the climate, and it’s the rest of us who’ll suffer the consequences. A phase-out date for the use of fossil fuel private jets is a sensible proposal.”
McDonald was later quoted saying: “Why is the government enabling billionaires to trash the climate when it’s the rest of us who will suffer the consequences?” he said in a statement.
“In just a few years’ time, it will be possible for these journeys to be made by electric aircraft, so long as the government puts in place the right incentives. Labour will examine these proposals closely and consult with industry on the introduction of a phase-out date for the use of fossil fuel private jets.”
