Gulfstream wins industry award for G500 business jet

Original equipment manufacturer Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. has announced that its G500 twin-engine business jet has received the 2019 Flying Innovation Award.

The accolade, awarded by Flying magazine to “the most innovative product to have reached the general aviation market in the previous year,” was presented on the opening day of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in Wisconsin.

“Innovation sets the foundation for flight and has been the bedrock of our culture from the beginning,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream.

“Whether we are making advancements in flight-deck safety, aircraft performance or cabin comfort, every member of the Gulfstream team is constantly looking for what we can do to push the state of the art and advance the field of aviation.

“Gulfstream is proud to bring revolutionary products to market and honored to be recognized with the 2019 Flying Innovation Award.”

Features highlighted by the magazine as having contributed to their selection included an innovative 10-touchscreen cockpit, fly-by-wire flight controls and a whisper quiet cabin.

Gulfstream also pointed to safety enhancements as examples of their innovations, such as their electronically linked active control sidesticks, the first of their kind in civil aviation.
