Friedman Memorial Airport in the US state of Idaho is set to relocate its air traffic control by 2023 as the FAA states the runway must be an ‘object-free area.’ The airport is now considering building a remote ATC tower.

The airport noted that they are hard at work on a plan as the next five years will go by very quickly. Constructing a remote air traffic control tower is now something the airport is considering.

Leesburg Executive Airport and Northern Colorado Regional Airport nearby both currently have pilot programs in place trialing the use of remote ATC, something which the airport has looked at in regards to its own future.
