An American Airlines pilot mistook a general aviation airport for Southwest Florida International Airport and attempted to land an Airbus 320 on its runway.
The pilot of the aircraft mistook Page Field for the much bigger airport in the US state of Florida before air traffic controllers directed the aircraft to the correct runway.
The mistake in approaching Page Field was quickly noted by ATC, the Federal Aviation Administration noted and the aircraft was appropriately redirected.
It is believed that the FAA is investigating the situation.
