Airplus to distribute Hensoldt’s new lightweight crash recorders

Maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider Airplus Maintenance GmbH has agreed a deal to distribute avionics company Hensoldt’s new lightweight crash recorders (LCRs).

The LCR100 and LCR200 units, which combine voice, data and image together in a one kilogram device, capture data including flight altitude and direction, engine temperature and speed, and voice communication from the cockpit.

“Airplus’s expertise in systems integration and its experience in getting approval for customized solutions are optimal preconditions for successful cooperation,” said Hensoldt head of avionics Stefan Kolditz.

Airplus is currently seeking approval from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for an STC for the first aircraft types by the end of year.

The Friedrichshafen Airport, Germany-based MRO provider will follow up the EASA STC for types such as the LCR100 for the Cessna 208 Caravan with certification from the Federal Aviation Association (FAA) in the United States.
