The first Boeing 777F of AeroLogic GmbH, a joint-venture cargo carrier owned by DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo, has taken off for its first commercial flight on 29 June 2009 at 7:15 am from Leipzig/Halle Airport in direction Bahrain. Loaded with around 80 tons, the freighter touched down safely five hours later at Bahrain International Airport in Manama. After further stops in Singapore and Delhi the freighter returned back to its home base Leipzig/Halle on 30 June 2009.
With a colourful ceremony, which had evoked immense interest, AeroLogic had begun operations officially on 19 June at Leipzig/Halle Airport. "The founding of AeroLogic is a milestone which will bolster and help expand the lead held in the logistics industry by Germany the world’s export champion", said Lufthansa Cargo Chairman Carsten Spohr. During the event, AeroLogic representatives received the deeds of the airline’s air operator certificate from Hans-Henning Mühlke, LBA Director Operations, and the first freight container was also symbolically loaded into the B777F.
